Description
Archontophoenix alexandrae, commonly known as the Alexander palm or king palm, is a tall, slender palm that can grow up to 20–30 meters (65–98 feet) in height. It features a smooth, gray trunk with prominent rings from fallen fronds and a striking green crownshaft. Its pinnate fronds are long and arching, reaching 2–3 meters (6–10 feet), with dark green upper surfaces and silvery undersides. The palm produces creamy-white flowers in large clusters, followed by bright red, small, round fruits.
Native to the coastal rainforests of Queensland, Australia, the Alexandra palm thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun to partial shade. It is moderately drought-tolerant and wind-resistant, making it suitable for exposed areas. This palm can endure cold temperatures down to about -3°C (27°F) for short periods but is best suited to tropical and subtropical climates.
