Description
Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as Judas tree, is a small deciduous tree reaching 4-10 meters (13-33 feet) tall with a broad, rounded crown. It has heart-shaped green leaves that turn yellow in autumn and produces clusters of bright pink to purplish flowers directly on the trunk and branches in early spring, before the leaves emerge. After flowering, it forms flattened, reddish-brown seed pods about 10 cm (4 inches) long.
Native to the Mediterranean region and western Asia, the Judas tree grows well in rocky hillsides, forest edges, and well-drained soils with full sun to partial shade.
