Description
Trachycarpus fortunei, commonly known as windmill palm, is a single trunked palm that reaches 6-12 meters (20-40 feet). It has a slender trunk covered with coarse brown fibers and fan shaped, dark green leaves. The crown is dense and symmetrical.
Native to subtropical forests and mountains of central and eastern China, windmill palm thrives in moist, well-drained soils and partial to full sun. It is highly cold-hardy, surviving temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F), and is also resistant to wind and moderately drought-tolerant once established. Its compact form and toughness make it one of the most popular cold-tolerant palms for gardens and landscapes in temperate regions.
