Description
Beaucarnea recurvata, commonly known as ponytail palm or elephant’s foot, is a slow growing, evergreen succulent that typically reaches 1.5-4.5 meters (5-15 feet) tall, though it can grow taller in ideal conditions. It has a thick, swollen base used for water storage and a narrow trunk topped with a dense cluster of long, arching, strap-like green leaves that can reach up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length.
Native to semi-arid regions of eastern Mexico, it thrives in rocky, well-drained soils and full sun. It is extremely drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and cold-hardy to around -5°C (23°F).
