Description
Erythrina caffra, commonly known as the coastal coral tree, is a deciduous tree reaching 9–12 meters (30–40 feet) tall, with a broad, spreading canopy and thick, knobby branches. Its trunk and limbs are often armed with short, woody spines. The leaves are trifoliate, and in late winter to spring, it produces dense clusters of bright orange-red, tubular flowers that attract birds and pollinators.
Native to coastal regions of South Africa, this tree grows in forest margins and open woodlands. It prefers well-drained soils and full sun.
