Description
Agave shawii, commonly known as Shaw’s agave, is a small, slow-growing succulent that forms dense rosettes. Its dark green to bluish-green leaves are rigid and edged with sharp reddish spines. Each leaf ends in a stout terminal spine, and mature plants produce a tall flower spike up to 3–4 meters (10–13 feet).
Native to the coastal areas of southern California and northwestern Baja California, Shaw’s agave grows in rocky, sandy soils and scrubby habitats.
