Description

Syagrus coronata is a solitary, medium-sized feather palm with an erect, columnar trunk reaching up to 15 m (50 ft) in height, typically 8-12 m (26-40 ft), and 20-35 cm (8-14 in) in diameter. The trunk is gray and prominently ringed with leaf scars, supporting a dense crown of 15-25 pinnate leaves. The leaves are 2-4 m (6.5-13 ft) long, arching to slightly recurved, and display a bluish-green to gray-green coloration. Leaflets are stiff, narrow, and regularly arranged along the rachis, giving the crown a compact and symmetrical appearance. The species is monoecious.

Inflorescences emerge between the leaves, densely branched and enclosed in a woody spathe before opening. They bear numerous small, cream-colored flowers followed by ovoid to ellipsoid fruits 2-3 cm (0.8-1.2 in) long, yellow to orange at maturity, with a fibrous mesocarp and a hard endocarp enclosing a single seed.
