Description

Coccothrinax borhidiana is a remarkably compact, solitary fan palm defined by its incredibly stiff, deeply divided, and nearly perfectly circular palmate leaves. The foliage presents a brilliant green upper surface with a heavily glaucous, silvery white underside that reflects sunlight. A distinct feature of this species is its trunk, which is tightly wrapped in a dense, woven network of thick, coarse brown fibers. As a monoecious species, it produces relatively short inflorescences that do not extend beyond the leaf crown, eventually yielding small, globose fruits that ripen to a dark purple or black. It is a diminutive species, typically reaching a maximum height of just 2 to 4 m (6 to 13 ft) in its natural habitat.
