Description
Acrocomia crispa is a solitary, heavily armed feather palm. The stem emerges relatively slender from the ground, abruptly expands into a massive swollen midsection, and then tapers back down just before reaching the crown. The canopy consists of softly arching, plumose pinnate leaves supported by petioles densely covered in elongated, needle like black spines. As a monoecious species, it produces interfoliar inflorescences that yield globose, yellowish brown fruits containing a thick and hard endocarp.
