Description
Acoelorraphe wrightii, commonly known as the Paurotis palm or Everglades palm, is a clustering palm that typically grows to heights of 4–10 meters (13–33 feet). It has multiple slender, grayish-brown trunks covered with fibrous leaf bases and is topped with a dense crown of fan-shaped fronds. The fronds are bright green with silver undersides. This palm produces small orange to black fruits.
Native to southern Florida, the Caribbean, and Central America, the Paurotis palm thrives in wet, swampy soils but can also tolerate drier conditions once established. It is highly wind-resistant, moderately drought-tolerant, and can survive cold temperatures down to about -9°C (16°F).
