Description
Cycas revoluta, commonly known as Sago palm, is a slow-growing cycad that forms a stout, woody trunk up to 6 meters (20 feet) tall but usually much shorter in cultivation. Its crown is made of stiff, glossy, dark green pinnate leaves that can reach 1 to 1.5 meters (3 to 5 feet) long. The leaflets are narrow, pointed, and curve slightly downward, giving the plant a symmetrical, rosette-like appearance.
Native to southern Japan, it grows on rocky slopes and coastal areas. It is highly drought-tolerant, withstands wind well, and adapts to poor soils. This species tolerates cold down to about -10°C (14°F), young plants are more sensitive.
