Description
Delonix regia, commonly known as royal poinciana or flamboyant tree, is a fast-growing, deciduous tree reaching 9–12 meters (30–40 feet) in height with a wide, umbrella-like canopy. It has smooth gray bark, fine-textured, feathery bipinnate leaves, and produces spectacular clusters of large, bright red to orange flowers with spoon-shaped petals. Long, flat, dark brown seed pods up to 60 cm (24 inches) follow the blooms.
Native to Madagascar, the royal poinciana thrives in tropical and subtropical regions, growing in well-drained soils and full sun.
