Description
Livistona chinensis, commonly known as the Chinese fan palm, typically reaches heights of 9–15 meters (30–50 feet). It has a single, slender, gray trunk topped with a wide crown of large, fan-shaped fronds. The fronds are bright green, 1–1.5 meters (3–5 feet) wide, and have drooping, ribbon-like leaf tips that give the palm a soft, cascading look. It produces small, blue fruits.
Native to southern China, the Chinese fan palm thrives in well-drained soils and tolerates both full sun and partial shade. It is drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and moderately cold-hardy, surviving temperatures as low as -6°C (21°F). Its graceful fronds and adaptability make it a popular choice for ornamental use in gardens, parks, and streetscapes across subtropical and mild temperate regions.
