Description
Sabal mauritiiformis, commonly called Savannah palm, is a tall palm that grows 10 to 20 meters (33 to 66 feet) with a straight gray trunk. It has fan-shaped green leaves about 1.5 meters (5 feet) wide on long petioles. The canopy is open, with leaves spaced apart, and the plant produces small round fruits.
Native to Central America and northern South America, it grows in forests, savannas, and along rivers. It does well in moist, well-drained soils and full sun. Sabal mauritiiformis is drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and cold-hardy to about -3°C (27°F).
