Description
Brahea brandegeei, commonly known as the San Jose Hesper palm, is a slender, fast-growing (compared to other braheas) palm that can reach heights of 12–18 meters (40–60 feet). It has a gray trunk marked with leaf scars and a full crown of large, green, fan-shaped fronds up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) wide.
Native to Baja California Sur, Mexico, the San Jose Hesper palm grows naturally in rocky canyons and along watercourses. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soils but is also adaptable to poor and dry conditions. Very drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and is cold hardy to down about – 5°C (23°F).
